Many years (such as 2006), and every day of the year (such as April 25), have their own pages on Wikipedia, recording noteworthy events that happened in a particular year or on a particular date. Also some months have their own pages (e.g. January 2006); these are mostly for archived current events. It is not considered good editing style to link every date in an article to these pages, although such links can be created in special cases. Until recently it was considered appropriate to place links around full dates (e.g., April 25, 2006), because the software automatically converts the format of such dates for logged-in users who have set a date preference. Such links are no longer recommended, but they can still be seen on many Wikipedia pages which have not yet been changed to the current preferred style. |
